Gilt Copper Sutra Case
Dated Hotoku sannen (1451)
The case is covered on each of its sides with a single sheet of copper. The lower 1/3 is decorated with punchwork waves and pierced with reichi head apertures. The upper 2/3 is decorated with running foliage on a nanako ground and applied with Wheels of the Law. The edges and corners are reinforced with plain strips of metal and the interior is applied with silk brocade.
