Rare Russian Silver and Enamel Inkwell
Olovyanishnikov, Moscow, 1908-1917
In the 17th century style, ovoid, on three lion-form feet, the domed cover with firebird-form finial, enameled throughout with scrolling foliage in black, turquoise and white on a dark green ground, each side reserved with a chased animal on an enameled ground above an inscription in Russian with its corresponding virtue: Might, Glory, Wisdom. Height 8 inches (20.3 cm).

Acquired by the grandparents of the present owner in Russia or Europe before 1930

In good condition; gilding lightly rubbed; minor surface scratches and bruises to silver; minor flaws to enamel; the cover with minor losses to enamel along edge and near join with finial; some bruises along edge of cover; the wirework border with one minor loss and bent in one area; flange under cover slightly bent in areas.
