Set of Twelve George III Mahogany Dining Chairs
Circa1760
Including two armchairs, each serpentine crest with acanthus leaves centering a stylized shell, above a pierced splat with acanthus leaves centering a tassel and with shaped arm rests terminating in bird's head handholds, over an overupholstered seat, raised on cabriole legs carved with cabochons and flanked by brackets with foliage, ending in claw-and-ball feet. Height of backrest 36 1/2 inches (92.7 cm), width 27 3/4 inches (70.5 cm).
