Publisher's blue pictorial cloth gilt. 8 5/8 x 5 1/2 inches; xvi, 389, [4]; xii, 366, 8 pp.; folding map in rear pocket, frontispieces, plates (some folding), in-text illustrations, half-titles, publisher's advertisements. Extremities bumped, occasional minor foxing, binders ticket to rear pastedown of vol. I.
Cameron's account of his journey as the first European to cross the African continent from east to west, which contains "valuable suggestions for the opening up of the continent, including the utilization of the great lakes as a Cape-to-Cairo connection" (Howgego).
