Lot 117
DRACOPOLI, I. N. Through Jubaland to the Lorian Swamp. An adventurous journey of exploration & sport in the unknown African forests & deserts of Jubaland to the unexplored Lorian swamp.
Philadelphia: J. B. Lippincott Company, 1914. First edition. Publisher's red pictorial cloth gilt. 8 5/8 x 5 1/2 inches; 318 pp.; folding map, frontispiece and plates after photographs, half-title. Spine ends bumped, endpapers lightly foxed.
"Dracopoli explored the region from Kismayu on the coast, then westward to the Lorian Swamp in British East Africa. In the Joreh district, he bagged oryx, gerenuk, arrola hartebeest, zebra and topi. Upon reaching the Lorian district, the author collected waterbuck and gazelle, but failed in his attempts after buffalo and rhinoceros. His descriptions of the terrain and climate are especially interesting" (Czech). Czech, Africa, p. 84.
