"MacDonald was chief engineer of the preliminary survey for the Uganda Railway. While not surveying or being involved in East African military campaigns, he managed to sneak in a little sport. In the Masai territory, near the tributaries of the Salt River, he bagged leopard and rhinoceros. This is particularly interesting for its military content and descriptions of the landscape" (Czech).
