Lot Details

Lot 427
George III Mahogany Serpentine Dressing Chest of Drawers
In the manner of Thomas Chippendale, circa 1765
The serpentine top above a mahogany-lined drawer with a leather-lined panel sliding open to a dressing mirror, checker-inlaid lidded boxes and compartments, the side fitted with an inkwell drawer, all over three drawers flanked by fret-carved stiles, raised on bracket feet with laminated blocks, red wash to back and underside, backboard with chalked inscription: STERN. Height 33 inches (83.8 cm), width 42 inches (106.7 cm), depth 23 1/2 inches (59.7 cm).

This dressing chest of drawers has book-matched veneers to the solid mahogany drawer fronts, each with a flame grain with a line at the center.
