Lot 8
CROSBY, HARRY Sonnets for Caresse.
Paris: Albert Messein, 1926. One of 100, this copy 36. Publisher's decorated vellum retaining the maroon printed wrappers, spine hand-lettered. 6 3/8 x 4 3/4 inches (16 x 11 cm); [6] ff, 48 pp., [2] ff. Darkened area to the front board (apparently a mark inherent to the vellum, rather than a stain), erased ownership mark on endpaper.
Most copies of this book are found in this vellum binding; the vellum used frequently shows discolorations as here, a function of the quality of the vellum used. Minkoff A3-c: "Copies were bound again in vellum (cream color with gold web-like patterns). Front and back covers have rectangular ruled borders, one part of which is lavender. Spine is hand-lettered in black." This third edition contains 48 poems; the two earlier editions contained 30 and 37 respectively, and the fourth edition of the following year only 24.
