[BURMA-HUNTING] THOM, W. S. Photograph album of shots of game in Burma.
Burma: about 1906. Old blue cloth photograph album. 6 1/4 x 8 1/4 inches (16 x 21 cm); 24 window-mounted gelatin silver prints, each 4 x 6 inches (approximately) with captions, apparently by Thom (though he refers to himself in these as "WST" some captions use the first person also. Binding worn, some silvering to images, thought these are generally in good shape.
Thom, with W.S. Pollok, was the author of Wild Sports of Burma and Assam, London: Hurst and Blackett, 1900. In that book Thom and Pollok analyzed the areas of big game hunting with a species-by-species description of their hunts drawn from their notebooks. The present selection of images is almost entirely of animals shot by Thom, including tigers shot at Sinbo, Nanyaseek and Kamaing, bull bison, Burmese goat, etc. There are two images of large mahseer caught by Colonel Keary. A number of the identifying labels include anecdotal information about the bag.
