Publisher's cloth gilt lettered on spines, with the Edmonds & Remnant label, housed in a folding cloth case. 8 x 5 inches; [viii] 325 pp.; [viii] 374 pp.; [viii] 333, 16 pp., publisher's catalogue at end. A sound set but with some dust soiling to edges, most hinges cracked, extremities rubbed with a few short tears to headcaps, erasure stains to half titles with some show through on two titles, lightly toned, with the booklabel of Frank J. Hogan.

First edition in cloth of George Eliot's first novel. this copy sold as part of the Frank J. Hogan Library, part two English Literature, Parke-Bernet, 24 April 1945, lot 245.
