Original printed wrappers, first issue with "37 1/2 cents." to upper wrapper corner, housed in a cloth case. 7 1/3 x 4 3/4 inches; frontispiece portrait of Pierce, 144 pp. Wrapper and frontis split at joint and holding by chords, small area of tissue guard over portrait torn away, light foxing to portrait, a few stray stains to wrappers, all in all a sound, unrestored example; and Life of Franklin Pierce. Boston: Ticknor and Fields, 1852. First edition. Publisher's cloth with the spine imprint 2mm, housed in a cloth case. 7 1/3 x 4 3/4 inches; frontispiece portrait of Pierce, 144 pp., ad leaf at front dated September 1852 and in BAL state D.
