Includes: The Rockwell Kent illustrated Random House edition of Moby Dick, 1930, first trade edition, in a full morocco; a worn first edition in original cloth of volume I only of Mardi, 1849, lacking a text leaf and stained; an 1892 Putnam's edition of Omoo in contemporary three-quarters morocco gilt; a 1930 Knopf edition of Pierre in a custom faded green morocco binding with the initials "W.L.S." to the upper cover; the Benj Greenstein illustrated Elf Publishers edition of The Piazza Tales, one of 750 numbered copies in three quarters vellum; the Miguel Covarubias illustrated Heritage Press edition of Typee, in slipcase; leather bound later editions of Israel Potter and The Romances of Herman Melville; and about 35 secondary and reference works on Melville, both hardcover and in wrappers, a few with markings, several with the booklabel of William Safire, the lot sold as is.
