TARKINGTON, BOOTH The Gentleman from Indiana.
New York: Doubleday, 1899. First edition, inscribed by Tarkington to Louise E. Hatry in 1929 and with a letter laid-in from his wife Susannah Tarkington relating to the autograph request. Publisher's green ribbed cloth stamped in red and lettered in gilt, the ear of corn on the spine upside down, housed in a morocco backed slipcase case. Very lightly rubbed, the inscription lightly offset to title, a fine copy overall, bookplate of Louise E. Hatry.

Tarkington's first book, with a dark inscription, one of just 1000 copies printed. This is the first issue with the last word "eye" p. 245, line 12; "so pretty." p. 245 line 16; "brainy bumps" line 7 p. 291; and "brain of Zeus." line 23 p. 342. Johnson, High Spots, p. 71.
