London: Edward Moxon, 1850. First edition, first issue with "the" for "thee" on page 2 line 13 and "baseness" for "bareness" on page 198, line 3. Publisher's purple cloth gilt lettered on spine, housed in a folding cloth case. 7 x 4 inches; 210, 8 pp. ads dated February 1850. The spine faded but externally clean, the hinges cracked, neat gift inscription to half-title, light spotting throughout.

A good copy of Tennyson's 1850 memorial poem to his friend Arthur Henry Hallam who had died in 1833. Verse XXVII includes the memorable line "'Tis better to have loved and lost/Than never to have loved at all."
