TENNYSON, ALFRED LORD In Memoriam.
Sevenoaks: Noel Rawnsley, 1909. A fine reprint of the 1850 first edition. Finely bound by Root in full speckled brown morocco with gilt tooling and an inset panel in tan morocco, the spine tooled in gilt with raised bands and green morocco lettering labels, all edges gilt, marbled endpapers. 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches; frontispiece portrait of Tennyson after the painting by Watts, unpaginated. The spine and corners rubbed.
Provenance: Ursus Rare Books
A fine privately printed and nicely bound reprint of Tennyson's 1850 memorial poem to his friend Arthur Henry Hallam who had died in 1833. Verse XXVII includes the memorable line "'Tis better to have loved and lost/Than never to have loved at all."
