Cambridge: John Baskerville, 1763. First Baskerville edition, one of approximately 1,250 copies, separate title page for New Testament also dated 1763. 19th century morocco with an elaborate gilt border, all edges yellow; in defective slipcase. 19 x 12 1/8 inches (48 x 31 cm); [pi]^[2+1], B-13D^(2), 13E1, *a-*e^(2), f1 (and correct thus). Boards detached but still bright, the spine defective with a small portion at foot detached but present, some toning, overall a presentable, clean copy.
The first edition consisted of 1,250 copies. Three states of the subscriber leaf are known; this is the version most commonly found, ending in "York." Gaskell, 26; Darlow and Moule, 1146.
