Boston: Little, Brown and Company, 1909. First edition, this copy 60 from an edition of 300, with a presentation ("With best wishes/Isabel Anderson") from the author. Publisher's pictorial vellum gilt, in the rare printed dust-jacket of issue. 9 1/4 x 6 5/8 inches (23.5 x 16.5 cm); xii, 251, [1] pp.; with 24 fine tipped-in color plates protected by printed tissue guards; decorations in-text. The jacket with a couple of nicks, a few small spots of foxing, ownership inscription on the first blank, but this is an unusually bright copy overall, with portions unopened.
The tipped-in color plates are from pastel drawings by John Elliott, and the chapter initials and headpieces are by Frank Downey. A wealthy Boston heiress (married to the diplomat Larz Anderson) Isabel Anderson wrote a number of books. This volume is exceptionally well produced, printed on deckle-edged paper of exceptional quality. It is exceptionally scarce in jacket.
