Lot Details

Lot 117
VISHNIAC, ROMAN (1897-1990) [Hackney Coachman], Warsaw,
1936, stated vintage (Vishniac's notations to this effect on verso). Gelatin silver print, 9 1/2 x 6 7/8 inches, signed (l.r.) and titled and dated (l.l.), verso with Vishniac's 83rd and 72nd Street stamps, annotated and signed "printed in 1936/Roman Vishniac," with "Warsaw" in pencil in another hand. Extreme right edge of the print overexposed, minor scratches and creases noted in raking light, but an image that displays well.
A good vintage example of Vishniac's street photography, one of a series of images of trades and occupations in Warsaw and Berlin taken before the Second World War.

Estimate: $700 - $1,000
