Postcard signed from Richter to Berlin, 1 September 1970 (date from Tenerife postmark), telling Berlin that he will soon be back in Dusseldorf and "... I hope I'm able to paint your polaroid." Light wear; together with an autograph letter signed, 27 September 1971, written in pencil, signed "Gerhard." with two enclosed photographs of three of the paintings made by Richter after her Polaroid self-portraits, housed in the original envelope addressed to her (as "Polk") at the Hotel George Washington. Usual folds; Typed letter signed, 15 October 1971, signed in ink with a correction in his hand. Housed in the original envelope, addressed to her (as "Polk); A transparency of the painting made by Richter from Berlin's Polaroid that was gifted to Berlin by the artist. Produced for Berlin by Christie's, before the sale of the painting at auction Thursday, November 12, 1998, and accompanied with the Christie's description; and an Original Polaroid by Berlin of another painting by Richter taken from her self-portrait series of Polaroids. Inscribed by Berlin on the verso. About fine.

Richter and Berlin met in 1971, and she gave him a series of Polaroid self-portraits that she had made while at Warhol's Factory. Richter subsequently made a series of six paintings of her based on these, in this placing her against a blurred image of his 1967 erotic painting Badende. Offered with the lot is a copy of Konigsklasse III. Gerhard Richter. Brigid Polk, Munich: Hirmer, 2015, in the publishers wrappers. This work documents Richter's paintings of Berlin.
