Baltimore; Lewis and Coleman, 1836. First edition. Original cloth. 7 1/2 x 4 1/2 inches (19 x 11 cm); viii, 184 pp.; three folding maps. The binding worn with the spine lacking and other wear, institutional markings to title and pastedown, bookplate of Beatrice and Lincoln Baylies, spotting and short tear to first map, some spotting but the text generally clean.
"Unsparingly critical of Jackson, Jesup, and the Secretary of War"--Howes. The maps are "A Map of the Seat of War in Florida, 1836" and plans of the "Battle and Massacre Ground of Major Dade and Command Dec. 28th 1835" and "Camp Izard on the Ouithlacooche River Reb. 29, 1836." Potter was a former United States officer who was wounded at Camp Izard. Howes P-515, Sabin 64673, Streeter II: 1236.
