Contemporary paneled calf rebacked. 8 x 5 inches (20 x 13 cm); with folding copper-engraved map and three folding copper-engraved plates, [16] 283, index, ad to verso of final leaf. Upper cover detached and front endpaper nearly so, toning and spotting, small early ink signatures to title, the plates clean, bookplates of Randall Hatfield and Andrew Christian Zabriske.

Wafer was a surgeon turned buccaneer and this is considered one of the best accounts of the Isthmus of Panama. The work features a folding map and fine engraved plates depicting natives. Sabin 100940.
