[HUNTING - AFRICA] ALEXANDER, BOYD, Lieutenant [and TALBOT, PERCY A.]. From the Niger to the Nile.
London: Edward Arnold, 1907. First edition. Two volumes, original red cloth gilt. 9 x 6 7/8 inches (23 x 17 cm); xv, [1], 358; xi, [1], 420; frontispieces in each volume, 3 folding maps printed in color, 42 plates largely from photographs, plus numerous illustrations in the text. An unusually bright set of this heavy work, with only some light rubbing to corners and softening to spine ends, internally quite fresh.
The account of the expedition conducted by Lieutenant Alexander and Captain Gosling, which included a crossing of Lake Chad (and indeed most of the other navigable waters along their route). They hunted lion, hippo, okapi etc. Gosling died of fever during the expedition. Czech (Africa) pp. 3-4.
