George Jones Majolica 'Apple Blossom and Fence' Butter Dish Cover and Stand
Circa 1875
Of coopered barrel form molded with wreaths of entwined flowering vine, the cover handle as a twisted green vine, the stand similarly molded, together with a replacement glass liner, impressed GJ monogram mark, black painted shape no. 1431 and 20. Diameter 8 inches.

Stacke, Majolica, A Complete History and Illustrated Survey, New York, 1989, p. 89 for a page from a George Jones & Sons pattern book, circa 1873, featuring cheese keepers, a larger associated version of the present model designed for stilton cheese (no. 1750).
