Lot 262
[NEW YORK-CALLIGRAPHY] AMES & ROLLINSON. Calligraphic presentation manuscript on vellum.
New York: 1924. A seven-page calligraphic manuscript in ink with historiated initials heightened with gilt and color, the first leaf signed "Ames & Rollinson, N.Y." The manuscript loosely bound by a silk tie into leather covers with purple silk linings, housed in its original card box stamped by Ames & Rollinson of New York. 7 3/4 x 5 1/2 inches (19.5 x 14 cm). Silk tie nearly broken at foot of spine, some curling to the vellum and light toning, the card case with a few splits.

A nicely made calligraphic manuscript commissioned by the Stationers Association of New York in memory of president John Brewer providing his history as a stationer starting in 1866 through his death in 1924. The manuscript is signed at the end by the current president and secretary of the Stationers Association and was prepared by Ames & Rollinson, premier stationers of the day. An interesting piece of bookish New York history.
