Fredrick James Partridge Arts & Crafts Silver, Polychrome Enamel and Opal Pendant-Necklace
15 oval opals, enamel portrait miniature likely of the goddess Aphrodite, signed Partridge, c. 1905, ap. 14.7 dwts. Length 15 1/8 inches.
English jeweler Frederick James Partridge, was born in Barnstaple, North Devon in 1877. He attended the Birmingham School of Art and worked at the Barnstaple Guild of Metalwork, the Guild of Handicraft at Chipping Camden and the Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts in London. Partridge designed for Liberty & Co. and others out of his London studio. Coined the "English René Lalique," his works are largely characterized 'Art Nouveau,' particularly due to his use of plique-à-jour enamel, as an artist he is considered an Arts and Crafts jeweler of note. Examples of his work can be seen at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
