Edward Sebasta Fringed Slip Dress
American, late 1950s
The body hugging sheath of ivory silk sewn allover with pearlescent bugle beads in vermiculate pattern graduated in density from top to bottom, the skirt further embellished with overlapping layers of long swinging bead fringe, front slit, separate ivory chiffon stole, size 4, labeled: Edward Sebasta.
Very good condition.
Winona Ryder wore the gown to the 1994 Academy Award Ceremony, where she garnered wide acclaim for her appearance and choice of a vintage gown. Photographs of her in the dress have frequently been published. It was chosen by In Style Magazine as one the best all-time Oscar dresses.
