Two Meissen Porcelain Large Leaf-Shaped 'Confectionary' Dishes (Confect Schaale)
Circa 1740-1750, blue crossed swords marks
Each molded as two overlapping lettuce leaves, painted with loose bouquets and scattered sprigs of deutsche Blumen, within brown line rims. Length 14 1/2 inches (36.8 cm).
Based on a Japanese form and also found with Kakiemon decoration, this shape was recorded in the 1729 inventory of Augustus the Strong, as a 'Confect Schaale' or 'Confectionary' dish.
