Mintons Majolica Turquoise-Ground Ram's Head and Festoon Garden Pot and Stand
Designed by Baron Carlo Marochetti, shape no. 727, date cypher for 1878
Of spiral gadrooned form, the ram's mask handles suspending a high-relief molded floral swag, impressed uppercase marks, 14 and F, shape no., and black painted 1 to stand. Height 16 1/4 inches, diameter 13 3/4 inches.

This model was first shown at Minton's inaugural majolica display at The Great Exhibition, London, 1851. The sculptor, Marochetti (Italy 1805-1867), is perhaps best remembered for his portrait busts of the Royal family and for a life-size equestrian bronze of 'Richard the Lion Heart', Palace of Westminster, London.

Garden Pot: appears to be in very good condition; there are several small nicks to the glaze, including one located on a ram horn, several to the mouth of the ram at the opposite side, one to a leaf tip on the garland, etc.; even surface crazing; inner diameter 11 1/4 in.; examined under blacklight

Stand: appears to be in generally good condition; there are approximately two chips to the underside rim, not visible when placed; even surface crazing; examined under blacklight
