Three volumes in full blue morocco, the last a clamshell case containing the plates. 18 1/2 x 13 inches (47 x 33 cm); Volume I: xxxxvi, 469, [1] pp, 1 ff.; Volume II: [xi] 472-1025, [3] pp. 1 ff.; unnumbered portfolio of plates. An immaculate set.
This set comprises the corpus of Leonardo's anatomical studies, arranged chronologically by Carlo Pedretti. Leonardo's notes are transliterated, translated and edited by Kenneth D. Keele. The drawings, covering a period of some thirty years, from 1483 to 1513, exhibit a changing focus, moving gradually from morphology to physiology. Beautifully printed at the Curwen Press, this facsimile involved unusual and unfettered access to the Royal Library at Windsor Castle.
