Silk-on-Linen Pictorial Linen Sampler
Worked by Sabinah Mensch, Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, wrought June 27th, 1837
Depicting a family on a lawn with two trees and a white house. Height 15 inches, width 16 7/8 inches.
Possibly wrought by Sabina Mensch Painter, born on May 4, 1821 in Columbia County, Pennsylvania, and died July 11, 1909. Mensch was the daughter of Peter and Mary (Boone) Mensch, of Columbia county, Pennsylvania. She was married to William Pusey Israel Painter (1818-1895) from Sunbury, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania. They reared a family of nine children.
The SF wrought in the lower right corner was probably the initials of Sabinah's schoolmistress.
