[HAMILTON, ALEXANDER] Letter from Alexander Hamilton, concerning the public conduct & character of John Adams, Esq. President of the United States. Written in the year 1800. New edition, with a preface.
Boston: G.E. House, 1809. Disbound pamphlet (note: this is not a signed item). 8 x 5 inches (21 x 12 cm); 56 pp. Old dampstain to upper corner throughout, a few creased leaves, remnant of old binding to spine.
Hamilton's attack on President John Adams was first issued in several editions in 1800 and according to Ford: "Mr. Adams prepared an answer to Hamilton's letter in 1801, which he published in 1809 ... and the editor of the present pamphlet published it [this edition, adding a preface] because Adams had 'thus rudely revived his remembrance of his controversy with General Hamilton.'" We trace no copy of this expanded edition in the auction record since 1968. Ford 73.
