New York: J.S. Redfield, 1850. First edition of the first collected edition of Poe. Two volumes. Full early brown morocco gilt. 7 x 4 1/2 inches; frontispiece, half title, 483 pp., 4 pp. ads; 495 pp. The bindings generally worn with losses to tips and the joints rubbed, chip to frontispiece, toned.

This is the first edition of the first two volumes collecting Poe's major works, issued just a year after his death. A third volume was published in 1851 and the fourth in 1856, both containing lesser material. The first volume prints Poe's Tales and the second volume Poems and Miscellanies. BAL 16158.
