Lot Details

Lot 250
[MAPS-INDIA] Group of maps.
Approximately 20 maps of British India, many in the original card wrappers. Most Survey of India issued, 1920s. Various sizes, printed on paper, most linen backed. Some with wear, losses, worming etc..

A collection of maps acquired during a visit to Ranikhet, a hill station in the northern state of Uttarakhand, India, with views of the western peaks of the Himalayas. Anecdotally, these were owned by a former groundskeeper in the area. The maps of that region, especially of the Kumaon division (where the events in Jim Corbett's classic Man-Eaters of Kumaon took place) are of especial interest. Also included are railway maps produced by the Survey, maps for Allahbad and Bombay, etc.
