[FLORIDA - EPHEMERA] The Florida East Coast and its Wonderful Railway and Magnificent Hotels.
[No place: no publisher, no date, circa 1912]. Saddle stitched in original color printed, gilt and embossed paper wrapper, in original printed blue paper mailing envelope. 9 3/4 x 6 3/8 (24.75 x 16.25 cm); [20] pp., entirely illustrated with color printed backgrounds on every page, illustrations after photographs, and a map. A remarkably fresh example of a delicate pamphlet, with very minor wear to corners, a faint stain to rear cover, the mailer with some staining and a 1 3/4 inch tear along one edge.
A rare and attractively printed pamphlet advertising Florida tourism, with information on the Florida East Coast Railway and the upscale hotels along its route. The railroad, whose final extension bridging the 128 miles from Miami to Key West was completed in 1912, allowed Florida to become a popular and accessible destination for out-of-state tourists. The railway, along with many of the hotels advertised in this pamphlet, was owned by Standard Oil tycoon Henry M. Flagler. This brochure describes Florida's healthful climate, its vacation activities, such as golf, tennis, fishing and boating, and details potential trips by boat to Nassau in the Bahamas, and Havana, Cuba. Rare, with only a handful of copies on Worldcat, none of which mention the mailing envelope.
